Australia Ross Dam Western Park
Nicer outlook than the main dam entrance. Lots of rock wallabies everywhere.
Photography Tips
Listed as a dark location for night sky photography but I’ve so far only been there with an 80% moon, so I can’t vouch for star visibility but it should be good with a dark or new moon. You may get some interference from the rare passing car but the road is behind and below you. Be careful of snakes here...the night I went, there was a snake right near the top of the stairs. Take a spotter with you! Next time I go at night, I’m contemplating staying in the car because you’d still get some halfway decent shots from the car park, although you wouldn’t see the water. You could light paint the stairs for an interesting shot.
Travel Information
Get there by car. Jump on Riverway Drive and keep going. There’s a small car park with white fencing that pops up out of nowhere...that’s it! Watch out for roos on the road at night, especially past the first entrance, where the street lights stop.
