Australia Beresford Railway Siding Ruins
This is Beresford Siding on the Old Ghan railway track adjacent to the Oodnadatta track. The building was accommodation for the fettler's, men who maintained the rail line. The square tank contained water for the steam engines. The circular tower alongside the tank was a de-mineralisation tower (water softener). During WWII the rail line was pressed to its limits and freshwater was limited. The de-mineralisation towers were built to remove salt from bore water so that it could be used by the trains.

Travel Information
This is a remote desert area. The Oodnadatta track is a good gravel road but may be corrugated, and after rain may be impassable. It is not recommended to travel in summer. Always prepare well and get advice on the conditions at the time of travel. https://southaustralia.com/travel-blog/flinders-ranges-and-outback-driving-safety-tips
