Australia 'Dugout' House in Coober Pedy
Coober Pedy, the Opal Capital of Australia, is located in a sun-baked lunar landscape in central Australia. Early miner settlers soon realised the advantages of living underground to escape the extremes of climate. About 50% of the population lives underground in "dugouts". Hotels, shops and churches are underground. Here the interior of one house is shown.
