Australia Mound Spring in Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre
The lake is usually dry but in times of flood when it fills with water the colours can be remarkable. In this view towards the risen sun the lake bed was dry and cloud patterns dapple the scene. The second image is looking away from the sun,
Photography Tips
People have differing opinions about the best height to fly and lens selection. This was taken at 600 feet. Flying in the golden hour is best but low light can present challenges with camera settings. A high shutter speed is needed to prevent motion blur. When shooting straight down depth of field is not a problem so a small f-stop can be used. Settings for this image were: 1/4000 sec, f8, ISO 400, 75 mm FL.
Travel Information
Make your base in William Creek. The airfield there is just 15 minutes flying time from the lake shore.
