Australia Princess Pier
This is an old working pier that has been restored and is now used for recreational purposes. The end of the restoration project looks out over hundreds of old stumps called 'The Pins'. There are also excellent views towards the current working Pier (StationPier) where cruise liners and the Spirit of Tasmania docks. This view is best captured at dawn.
Photography Tips
This is a good spot for using an ultra-wide-angle lens and an ND filter. The Pier is south facing so summer is the best time for dawn and dusk shoots. To get that milky water look you have to go for a longer exposure.
Travel Information
The Pier is 4kms from Melbourne's CBD and can be accessed by catching the 109 Tram and getting off at the last stop (Beacon Cove). Parking is available along Beach Street, the car park adjacent to Station Pier, and the IGA car park near the tram stop.
