There are two identical buildings there. Both once were part of the station "Karlsplatz" of the Vienna "Stadtbahn" - now part of the subway system. The two pavillons were saved during the construction of a wide subway crossing (U1, U2 and U4).

The "Stadtbahn", a mix between a subway and a rapid train system, was opend in 1898. The famous architect Otto Wagner designed all bulidings - stations as well as bridges and so on. The two pavillons on Karlsplatz are special as they show more of typical Jugendstil details.

Now one pavillon is a café and the other part of the museum of Vienna, whose main building is located not far away.
