Austria Museums' Quarter Vienna

Todays' Museums' Quarter once were the horse stables of the Imperial Court. From 1922 till the 1990s the buildings were used as exhibition center for the Vienna Fair.

In 1998 the modifiaction starte to create the Museums' Quarter which was finished in 2001. Now it is a mix of ancient and modern architecture and as the name says it is mainly used as a center of important museums but also as event location and recration zone. The most important museums are the Leopold Museum and the Museum of Modern Art.

The Leopold museum, it's the modern white building, houses the largest collection of Egon Schiele's work. 2020 the "Libelle" (dragon fly) was opend on the roof of this museum. You can see the elevator on the left side. From the "Libelle" you have a nice view to the center of Vienna and you can (but need not to) drink something or eat a snack.

The Museum of modern Art is the grey buliding. It is a collection of modern paintings from Picasso, Warhol and so on. Most of them are the collection of the couple Irene and Peter Ludwig. Therefore the museum carries the Name "Collection Ludwig".

A thiird museum is the "Kunsthalle Wien" (Hall of Arts Vienna" which is located in the ancient building in the middle of the main court.

There is a parking facility below bur it is very expensive. It is nearly impossible to park outside so you better use public transport or just walk there when you are visting the center.

The best possibility to reach Museums' Quarter by public transport is the subwas U3 to the station Volkstheater. Be aware that the Subway U2 is out of order till 2025 due to construction works for a new line.
