Austria Stream at Grosser Ahornboden

  • Please log in or sign up for free to see the GPS coordinates & weather for this photo spot
Deep in the Karwendel lies the Grosser Ahornboden. It's an amazing place with huge potential for landscape photography. This spot lies at the very end of the valley, only a few minutes from the parking lot in front of the hotel. Where the path crosses the stream, hop over the fence and follow the stream for 50 meters untill you find this particular bend.

Don't forget to bring Gore-Tex hiking boots as the field is very wet!

Photography Tips

Bring a wide-angle lens for this particular spot and take you time. I held the camera up high (above my head) for the best perspective. Keep the camera level though to avoid wide angle distortion.

Take your time on the location. I had to wait for the clouds to break to get this dramatic light. It lasted only 30 seconds, so be ready to shoot!

Travel Information

Free parking in front of Hotel Die Eng. There's a toll road to access the valley, but it's only a small fee and the tollbooth is often closed, meaning you get free access.

There's also public transport, although I don't know the details.

You can sleep at the hotel or at the Eng Alm.
