Belgium Bouckenborgh Castle
From the 16th century Bouckenborgh was a court of plaisance. Many rich people from Antwerp had one in Merksem to relax in the green during the summer.
The current castle was built in late classical style in 1810, on the site of an older castle.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the castle was provided with electricity and heating, and furnished as a retirement home.
The municipality of Merksem bought the castle in 1971 and it became a school. The building now serves as a cultural centre.
