Belgium Barlare Castle
Little is known about the history of this small castle.
Aloysius vanden Meersche, the lord of Berlare, had Berlare's castle rebuilt around 1722, probably on the rubble or the remains of the previous castle.
The parallel service buildings on the forecourt of the castle were built, given their rococo style; probably in the middle of the 18th century.
The vanden Meersche family remained lords of Berlare and owner of the castle until 1791, when it came into the possession of the de Lichtervelde family by marriage, who inhabited the castle until 1883. From then on, the various owners soon followed.
The castle and the surrounding park have been protected since 1974.
In 2008 the municipality of Berlare bought the castle.
