Originally, a farmstead surrounded by marshland stood on this site in the 15th century. Jan Carlo de Renialme de Cordes owned the court from 1585 and probably between 1585 and 1609 he had the castle built in traditional style.
Between 1730 and 1780 the castle underwent significant changes.
During the Boer War (1798) the Tanghof was the local headquarters of the rebels against the French. After that, the castle had several owners and occupants.
From 1886 to 1991 it served as an orphanage. From 1903 it served as a residence for the "Pères du Très Saint Sacrement". Around 1950 the castle was uninhabited and in poor condition. It was restored shortly thereafter by the Breugelmans family.
The castle and its surroundings have been protected since 1995.
