In 1850, Jan Baptist Van Holen, tax collector in Duffel, had Perwijs Castle built on the spot where, during the Spanish occupation, a fort or bulwark had stood to guard the bridge over the Nete.

In 1901, it was sold to the Brussels pensioner Johannes De Coorebijter.

It was restored after the heavy war damage of 1914 and bought by the municipality in 1933. After two years, the castle was sold again, but the garden, laid out in the second half of the 19th century, was turned into a municipal park in 1934.
