The Begijnhof in Bruges, also known as the Beguinage, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most well-preserved beguinages in Belgium.

A beguinage was a residential community established during the Middle Ages for religious women known as beguines. These women chose to live a semi-religious life, devoting themselves to prayer, contemplation, and charitable works while maintaining their independence. The Begijnhof in Bruges was founded in the 13th century and was inhabited by beguines until the early 20th century.

The Bruges Begijnhof, founded in 1245, is characterized by its serene and peaceful atmosphere. It is enclosed by whitewashed buildings, quaint cobblestone streets, and a tranquil garden in the center. The houses in the beguinage are typically small and uniform, reflecting a simple and humble lifestyle.

Each season has its merits, but in spring you get the added bonus of thousands of daffodils brightening up the garden. Lots of ornate details to be photographed here so worth bringing a zoom lens.
Go early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds or consider using an ND filter. You'll get direct light on the main exterior with the bridge in the mornings.
