Bhutan Tigers Nest (Taktsang Lhakhang)
The so called 'Tigers Nest' is certainly one of the highlights of every Bhutan trip. It is a buddhist monastery which has been spectacularly build into a steep rock wall in the Himalaya at approx. 3.200 meters. It is located close to Paro where you will also find Bhutans one and only international airport. The Tigers Nest is one of if not THE holiest places in Bhutan.
Photography Tips
The Tigers Nest can be shot from outside but it is strictly forbidden to shoot inside. There will be lockers at the entrance where you can leave your stuff. Also there usually is a police guard to enforce the ban of photography inside the monastery. My recommendation: bring a tripod (for longer exposures), a wide angle lens and filters (polarizing and graduated ND).
Travel Information
It's a short drive from Paro to the starting point for the climb. Then you have two options: either you climb up and down all on your own or you hire a 'tibetan mustang' which caries you half way up. You have to walk the rest on you own and the descent is not possible with mules.
