This is the closest spot to the beautiful Sunwapta Falls in Jasper National Park, Rocky Mountains, Canada. Especially the island with the trees is something that adds a very unique look to this amazing waterfall in the western region of Canada. At this spot, you are standing just right at the waterfall, so pay attention to the sometimes slippery stones and don't go there when there are lots of people, because you might ruin their photos by standing within their frames. Outside of that, it's a nice perspective if you want something different than the famous view from the bridge.

Photography Tips

You need a tripod, ND filters and polarizers, ideally combined with a remote control. The rocks can be used as a nice foreground element, which is somehow pointing towards the waterfall.

It's always a good idea to be at places like this one during times that might not be that crowded like fall during sunrise. The huge benefit of this perspective is, that you definitely won't have any other people within your frame.

Travel Information

On the Icefields Parkway, about twenty-five miles from Jasper. You will need to have a Canada Parks Pass to enter Jasper National Park. You can pre-purchase one online (it's cheaper), or you will have to purchase one at the park gate. Turn off of the Icefields Parkway at the Sunwapta Lodge and follow the adjacent road about a half-mile to the parking lot. Fall is the best time to go there because, during the summer, the falls are overrun with tourists.

To get to the spot itself, you need to pass the bridge and walk through the forest on the left side.
