Begbie Falls is convenient in that it lies close to town. In the summertime, the walk takes you through a lush dense forest and the falls are loud and powerful.

Photography Tips

Carry a polarizing filter. Mist from the falls can be an issue so be prepared to wipe your lens and protect your gear.

Travel Information

From the intersection of Highway 23 and Big Eddy Road in Revelstoke, British Columbia, drive south on Highway 23 for 1.9 km to Mt. Begbie Road. Turn left and drive 6.5 km to Begbie Falls Recreation Area. The shortest hiking route to Begbie Falls involves driving a rough gravel road (big pot holes and very narrow) to a gravel parking lot located at the Begbie Falls Recreation Site. Some park their vehicle at the start of the rough gravel road section and hike or bike the rest of the road to the parking lot and the trailhead. You must decide if you want to park and hike the rough road (if you do not have a tough off road vehicle) which makes it a 40 minute hike to the falls or continue along the gravel access road to the parking lot at the Begbie Recreation Site (about a 10 minute hike) which is what we did. As you head in, prepare to hop or duck over fallen trees. Bear in mind that the signs along the trail may not always be clear, so a good rule of thumb is to stay right at each fork, until you reach the second parking lot. There, you will find outhouses and a path on the left. Take that trail down the hill, listen for falling water, then hook right. When you reach the falls, you’ll find a wooden viewing platform and the reward for your toil. The trail can be very slippery from the mist created from the waterfall, (especially going downhill) as you get closer to the viewing platform.
