Canada Moraine Lake
The hike around the Moraine Lake Shoreline is the easiest way to appreciate the beauty of this famous alpine lake. A flat, easy trail weaves its way through shoreline trees and offers extraordinary views of the Ten Peaks, a series of encircling summits all over 10,000 feet. About a 15-20 minute drive from Lake Louise, this is the most beautiful lake I've seen anywhere.). At very least, do the short hike up the “Rock Pile” (right next to the parking lot) to the overlook. From the Rock Pile, I’ve heard many audible gasps when people gain the ridge and see the lake for the first time.
Photography Tips
If you get there after sunrise, the very large parking lot might be full. The last time I was there (June 2019) barricades were in place and vehicles were being turned away by park police at 7 AM. We returned about an hour later just in time for park police to let four vehicles in. Very lucky! If you’re unable to park in the morning, try coming back late in the afternoon.
