Canada Whistler's Peak - Jasper Sky Tram
Either hike up Whistler's Peak from the bottom, a doable 2-3h 6.5km hike that takes you up 1000 vertical meters. You go around the backside of the mountain, and once passing the treelike you are granted great views towards the North East, with alpine meadows. further up you reach the mountain station of the gondola and great views over the townsite Jasper, the Athabasca River Valley, Pyramid Mt. and so much more. Easy access is provided by the gondola, which is rather expensive at (50 CAD roundtrip per person). Up on the mountain you usually find marmots and pikas and if hiking beware of bears which frequent the area.
Photography Tips
Well, it works any time of the day, but being up there at sunset must be amazing. Also, it might be great for night photography, especially as you can see the aurora from up here on a given night. But cloudy days with the sun to the south or in your back work best for a great show of Jasper. So I would recommend midday and thereafter. My shot was taken at noon in August.
Travel Information
Park your car at the base station of the tram, hike from there or take the gondola. Just 10 minutes out of downside Jasper going south on Highway 93 for 5 minutes.
