China The Three Pagodas of Chong Sheng Temple
Dali is located on the route between Luxi and Lijiang, in the west of Yunnan, directly on the shore of the idyllic Erhai Lake (Ear Lake).
The city is famous for its picturesque surroundings and the culture of the Bai - the largest ethnic minority living here. Influenced by neighbouring countries, the Bai speak a Tibeto-Burmese language.
Probably the biggest sight of Dali is the old town of Dali itself with its numerous alleys and traditional houses. The many classical tiled roofs, the decorated and painted house walls and the quiet gardens give the place a special atmosphere. The landmark of the town are the three white brick pagodas in the beautifully designed Three-Pagoda Park.
The middle pagoda, with 16 roofs, is square in plan, 69 m high and was built in the 9th century. The other two are octagonal, only 42 m high and 100 to 200 years younger.
In the park, several terraces go up, from one Buddhist temple complex to another.
It is the largest complex of its kind in China!
