Xidatan (西大滩, alt 4144M) is a small Tibetan town in the middle of Qinhai-Tibet highway. The location is special because Sob Sangri Peak (玉珠峰, alt 6178M) of Kunlun Mountians is just in front of the town on the north side. Sob Sangri is a very smooth and one of easiest to conquer 6000M peaks in the world. The small town attracts many mountaineers, including beginners every season. The Base Camp with excellent training facilities locates a few mile from the town.

You have to rent a car to get there.

Photography Tips

The Kunlun Mountains is east to west oriented. Photos was taken from Xidatan(西大滩 alt 4144M) on north direction. Therefore, sunrise or sunset is equally good.

Rent an SUV in Xining Airport (Capital City of Qinhai Provence) and take National Highway G109 (GPS to) Xidatan (Golmud).
