Espeletia or frailejones is a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, endemic to the páramo in the Andes. The paramo (from the Spanish páramo: plateau, moor) is a high-altitude neotropical biotope, found in the Andes mountain range, between the forest limit and the eternal snows.
