Cuba Rio Hatiguanico boat tour departure point
This is the departure point for fishing or wildlife watching tours by boat along a 10km stretch of the Rio Hatiguanico. It's pretty much the only way of accessing the northern part of Cienaga de Zapata, all other areas you can get into are from the main road to Playa Larga or the coast.
Photography Tips
Most of the photography you will do here is from a small boat so don't worry about tripods etc, a beanbag or handheld will be a better option. We were allowed to get out of the boat at one point but the jungle is very thick, light is terrible because of the thick canopy and the mosquitoes are ferocious! Lots of birds, turtles etc along the riverbanks.
I was hoping to see wild Cuban Crocodile but apparently they are rare on this stretch of the river and are almost impossible to find without a major expedition into the heart of the swamp (at least that's what Steve Winter from Nat Geo told me and he'd done it!)
But even this trip will make you feel like you had a proper adventure in remote Cuba, I loved it!

Travel Information
Hopefully the spot is helpful because this place is not signposted at all and is in a very remote area down a long bumpy dirt track, but you can see from the map where to turn off the Autopista to get here! Also the locals and boat guides here spoke no English, only Spanish.
