In 1714, Tsar Peter I decided to build himself a castle near Tallinn, which was then still called Reval, planned as a summer residence. It was modelled on Italian villas. The interior of the castle houses a branch of the Estonian Art Museum. The extensive park was laid out in the Baroque style.
