Finland Tammerkoski Rapids

The Tammerkoski rapids in the middle of the city of Tampere is a beautiful mix of late 19th and early 20th century industrial buildings and parks. This gives the place an almost Victorian feel to it, where parks, brick smokestacks and the flowing water mergers to a very tangible feeling of industrial progress.

Check out the different bridges over the rapids and also the banks of the river, there are multiple dams for the hydroelectric power plants which creates different levels as you go down stream. During the autumn, winter and spring the heating plants are also active so you can get nice shots of smoke from the old smokestacks that line the river.

Tampere is easiest to reach by train, and the rapids are only a couple of blocks away, the river runs straight through the city.
