Finland Northern lights in the middle of a forest clearing
We saw on the app that strong auroral activity was expected this night. We enquired everywhere about an "ideal" location, perhaps with a mirror effect. Nobody gave us a location or we didn't understand the explanation in Finnish. So we just drove off. We stopped in the middle of a forest clearing and the spectacle began.
Photography Tips
Open the aperture as wide as possible (2.8) and use correspondingly long exposure times (preferably no longer than 3 seconds, otherwise the stars will start to " move").
Travel Information
You can see our location on the map. But you can find even better locations on the lakeshore. It's best to check it out in the afternoon. Or you can hike in about 30 minutes to the viewpoint "Jyppyrän puolikota" (marked on the map below), where you will have a fantastic view.
