France Monet's Garden at Giverny
The beautiful village of Giverny is the hometown of Fondation Claude Monet which until today presents the house and the garden of famous impressionist painter Claude Monet including the famous lily-pond with the Japonaise bridge in the original form. Giverny is situated at the eastern edge of normannic département Eure at the confluence of rivers Seine and Epte, 63 Kilometer northwest from Paris. Sufficiently known and sucked dry it nevertheless supplies marvelous and impressing photographically motives which impress you more than you might admit. Life’s rich pageant of this garden is overwhelming. You will not believe before you will have seen it. Also the small village around is very impressive.
Photography Tips
In May and June the garden is most beautiful and it's still not high season although there always is high season. Be there early or late.
Giverny is quite expensive to stay. We loved staying at the Hotel "Villa Alienor" at "Les Andelys", a very nice hotel with a terrace with view to the river "Seine". Les Andely and the Fortress of "Chateau Gaillard", erected by Richard Coeur de Lion (Richard the Lionhart) is itself worth a recommendation.
