France Pointe Saint-Mathieu

Le Phare de Saint-Mathieu is a major lighthouse of the French coast with a range of 29 nautical miles. Along with the lighthouse of Kermorvan it signals the direction of the Chenal du Four, the passage between the mainland and the isle of Ouessant. The actual semaphore was built in 1906 as a watchpoint overlooking the Chenal du Four and the narrows of Brest harbour.

Photography Tips

I didn't want to take any risk descending the cliffs and I took this picture from a lot safer location, nevertheless I think this picture (taken at dawn) gives a reasonable good impression of the headland with the semaphore, the ruins of the abbey and the lighthouse.
