A long, strenuous hike will take you to this spot at the summit of the Pic de Bure. A breathtaking panoramic view on :
- the south west of Les Ecrins National Park to the east
- the Dévoluy Valley to the north,
- Gap, Céuze moutain to the south,
- Bure plateau, Grand Ferrand, Obiou to the west

If you plan to stay overnight, you can easily find a place to pitch your tent on the plateau, 200 meters down the peak.

Photography Tips

- Bring more drink water than you think you will need
- take a polarizing filter if possible (you probably will always shoot at a good angle from the sun)
- Avoid mid summer if possible : the haze will make it hard to see far enough to get good pictures of the mountains.
- check the weather right before getting up there. Despite looking like a desert, the moutain often gets cloudy / rainy.

Travel Information

If you're coming from the south ("Combe d'Aurouze" way) or the north ("Combe Ratin" way), it's a long (but not technical) hike up of about 1300 meters of elevation.

There is an easier way from the Superdévoluy ski resort but I've never been that way.
