Germany Hang glider launch pad at Melibokus, Bensheim
One of the most beautiful places for a sunset in the area. The view extends over the entire Rhine valley south of Frankfurt. In good weather conditions, you can see Frankfurt/Offenbach and the Feldberg (58km linear distance) behind. If the weather is fine, you can see in a westerly direction up to the Donnersberg (highest mountain of the Palatinate, 53 km linear distance) and further on.
The Melibokus (also Melibocus, Malchen or Malschen) is at 517 metres (1696 feet), the highest hill in the Bergstraße region of southern Hesse, central Germany. Melibokus overlooks the Rhine valley on the western fringe of the Odenwald region and is a local landmark, clearly visible for many miles. On the summit there is a small cafe, a public lookout tower and a US Army radio mast erected on the site of a previous stone tower, destroyed during World War II.

Photography Tips
Take a look at the actual conditions at: melibokus.com.
The Webcam takes every 5 minutes a new picture.
I would definitely recommend the viewpoint for sunsets and the blue hour. But even at night, the Rhine valley with its entire cities under the starry sky looks impressive.

Travel Information
Parking is avalable next to auerbach castle. From there on you have to walk (20-30 minutes). Many locals are driving up to the top (right from the parking space), but it's illegal.
If you are a bit more active, you can also park in Zwingenberg (nearest town) and run up from here. If you take a direct route (there are so many ways up), this can also be done in 30 minutes at a good pace. However, it would probably make more sense to schedule an hour for this variant.
