Germany Rammelsberg, Goslar
The Rammelsberg is a mountain, 635 metres (2,083 ft) high, on the northern edge of the Harz range, south of the historic town of Goslar in the North German state of Lower Saxony. The mountain is the location of an important silver, copper, and lead mine, the only mine which had been working continuously for over 1,000 years when it finally closed in 1988.[...] Since 1992, the visitor mine of Rammelsberg has become a UNESCO World heritage site. Photography Tips
The visit to a former mine wouldn't be complete without the experience of its underground world! Entering the tunnels and galleries of the mine is only possible by joining a guided tour.
Our visitors' tours with the mine train (Mining in the 20th Century: With the Mine Train on Site) and into the Roeder Gallery (Fire and Water: The Roeder Gallery) start every 30 minutes on a daily basis and don't require reservation.
Recommendations: The underground temperature is 12° C all year round. Expect a lot of humidity and bring sturdy shoes, as well as a jacket.
There is no basic age limit to our guided tours, but we don't recommend them for children under 4 years of age. During holiday seasons, it is advisable to make reservations in advance due to a high number of daily visitors.
Above ground, daily tours into the ore dressing plant as well as tours with the inclined elevator (during summer season) are available.
Tours in English are offered every weekend during summer season. Additionally, tours in English and other languages (French, Japanese, Polish, Russian, Danish) can be offered on request- please contact us prior to your visit
