Germany Alter Südfriedhof, München
Munich's old graveyard, in the center of town. It got heavily damaged in WW2, and was never fully restored. Many graves are overgrown by trees and plant, adding to the atmosphere. It doesn't have the allure of e.g. the Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, but it is still a great place. This also means it isn't usually swarmed with groups of people.
Note: on this cemetery (at least until 2017) you might spot a red squirrel; they are almost completely out-competed by their invasive cousin, the grey squirrel, in the rest of town. Eventually, they will lose the battle here too.
Arguably the most famous person buried here is Georg Ohm (former leader of the German resistance ;) ), but his grave is slightly underwhelming.

Photography Tips
Old graveyards make a great subject for taking pictures on 'bad weather days', since a bit of gloom only adds to the sinister atmosphere. Good place to go if you feel an urge to take pictures on a rainy day.
Travel Information
The graveyard is right in the center of town, and is easy to access coming from Sendlinger Tor. There is another entrance on the south end.
