The area around the Wimbach offers plenty of oportunities to capture the rapid river itself and also the surrounding waters coming down the steep hills on either side. The hills are partially covered in moss and make for nice green contrasts to the white water.

Photography Tips

I'd normally bring waterproof clothing and protection for my cameras to a ravine since there's typically a lot of spray from the water. When I was there there was a lot of water and the river was flowing rapidly but barely any spray. Definitely bring a tripod and ND filters to capture the motion by using long exposure techniques. It is quite dark but I was happy to use a 6-stop ND to make the water really silky smooth. The walkway along the river is sturdy but quite narrow. If you place your tripod you will block anyone who wants to pass. Keep in mind that anyone passing by will cause it to shake. Take your time and enjoy nature while waiting for everyone to pass. The rail is quite sturdy as well. I had to lean my tripod onto it to get a good framing. Worked out nicely even at 6.5s :)

I agree, there's a lot you can see in the Berchtesgadener Land but this was definitely a great place to be. Only few tourists, dirt cheap and with a lot of spots to capture the water. Thanks for your kind words!
