Germany Marxenhöhe, Maria Gern, Bavaria
This is a nice and lonely place to see a wide panorama of the Bavarian/Austrian Alps. If you hike another 1.5h you end up at Kneifelspitze. When I got up there I couldn't see past 50m but the view should be awesome without fog.
Photography Tips
Skip this spot after 11 a.m. You will get awesome alpenglow in the early mornings but after the sun rises high in the sky you'll have a hard time getting a good even exposure. If the valley is misty and foggy don't bother and hike to Marxenhöhe. You might end up above the fog with a wonderful view. To check weather above the fog google the "Kneifelspitze" webcam.
Travel Information
Maria Gern is a very small town and has limited parking spaces. Use the one marked on the map. It is free and close to the photo spot as well as other nice spots (check out Maria Gern's church with the Alps in the background!). To get to Marxenhöhe you will have to hike for around 30 minutes. The first 10 minutes is steep then it gets easier.
