Germany Münster Servatiiplatz
Iduna high-rise
The eleven-storey commercial and office building, the two-storey shop pavilion and the landscaped open spaces were built according to the plans of Prof. Friedrich Wilhelm Krämer from Braunschweig.
The building was constructed as a reinforced concrete skeleton structure with internal columns, bracing walls, ceilings on beams and stairs in in-situ concrete. Due to the construction, the internal division is variable; plasterboard panels serve as partition walls. The outer appearance of the buildings is determined by the curtain wall with grid divisions in aluminium frames, spandrel panels in sheet steel and aluminium windows with laminated glass. Included in the overall effect is the open space design by means of four round fountains, paved pedestrian areas, rectangular flower beds, lawns and specimen trees.
The Servatiiplatz high-rise is deliberately "modern" and non-conformist. Its historical reference field is not the city of Münster, but international architecture, especially that of the USA.
