Germany Triberg Waterfall

The waterfalls of Triberg are Germany's highest waterfalls and a great attraction for tourists. The water falls over not less than seven cascades over roughly 200 meters in height. There are countless photo opportunities at every cascade, but you have to be aware of masses of people and extremely shaking ground (bridges, metal grids and so on).

Photography Tips

Here we see the Triberg waterfall. It is best to photograph it in stages, here you have very great "platforms". Around the waterfall live wild squirrels, which have got used to humans and are quite tame. They steal the nuts out of your hand.
The lowest platform offers a great sight, but you stand on a metal grid, which has large openings. Legs of small travel tripods fall through it, su be careful. The metal grid as well as all those bridges shake when people walk on it. Getting a sharp long exposure can be difficult during rush hour. In the afternoon during summer, the sun makes it right above the falls, so you can get difficult (or beautiful) conditions of lighting. Absolutely necessary are: tripod, polarizer and ND filters. You can use everything from wide angle to medium tele lenses.

Travel Information

You can park in the village and walk about 3 km to the top. One suitable parking lot it the "Männerparkplatz" at the Edeka Super Market. You have to pay entrance fee to the waterfall area (6€ in summer 2020) during day time. From the entrance it is just a 5 minute walk to the first waterfall.
