Germany St. Johannes Nepomuk (Altenberge-Hansell)
The listed church of St. John Nepomuk is a daughter church of the Roman Catholic parish of St. John Altenberge, Steinfurt district, North Rhine-Westphalia, and is located in the centre of the district of Hansell, which belongs to the political municipality of Altenberge. The parish church is St. Johannes Baptist (Altenberge).
The construction of a chapel was initiated in the mid-18th century by the inhabitants of the Hansell farming community so that they would not have to make the arduous journey to the parish church in Altenberge on all Sundays and holidays. After the building was completed, the walk was only necessary for baptisms and the like. The chapel was donated by Canon Jodocus Franciscus Homeier and his sister Johanna Catharina, who owned a farm in Hansell.[1] In 1921 it was elevated to the status of a parish and in 2009 the parish was merged so that St. Johannes Nepomuk (Hansell) now belongs to the mother parish of St. Johannes Baptist (Altenberge) again.
