Germany Oldenburger Schloss
In the past centuries the Oldenburg castle was the residence of counts, dukes and grand dukes, whose residence history came to an end with the First World War. Since 1921 it has been part of the State Museum of Art and Cultural History. The formerly private Grand Ducal Collections form an essential basis for the present museum. Historical furniture and numerous objects of art illustrate the self-image of the Grand Dukes as art collectors and patrons. The first court painter and gallery inspector Johann Wilhelm Tischbein (1751-1829) designed, among other things, the Idyll Cycle, which is completely preserved with over 40 paintings.
