Germany Höllentalklamm
The Höllental Gorge is an impressive location, which combines wild waterfalls, deep cliffs, dark tunnels and many tourists. It is worth a visit when you are around the Zugspitze. It feels like a real adventure to go through this amazing gorge!
Photography Tips
It is tricky to set up a tripod, so it is better to go for handheld shots only. You definitely need ultra wideangle lenses. Bracketed shooting is very useful. You can get wet a lot, so look out for your camera. You definitely need good shoes and a rain jacket. Also use a rain cover on your camera bag. It is also pretty cold there.
Travel Information
Parking is in Hammersbach only. From there you have to hike for 1-2 hours, depending on your condition. You have to go up 300 meters in altitude until you reach the entrance. Entrance fee is 5 euros. You can then walk along the gorge, which is roughly 700 meters long. You will get endless photo opportunities. There can be a lot of people and they all come back the same way again, so it is a crowded place. At the moment you have to wear face masks in the whole gorge, which can be exhausting. If you wear glasses, they will catch dew, but you need to have a good sight in the dark tunnels. So be prepared and be careful!
The gorge can be closed in times of heavy rain and is only open during snow-free seasons. Check the website before going there.
