Germany Runkel Castle above the Lahn
Runkel Castle is a ruined hill castle from the High Middle Ages. It is located in the city of Runkel in the District of Limburg-Weilburg in the state of Hesse, Germany. In the background you will see the Castle of Schadeck wich is on the other side of the Lahn.
Photography Tips
If you want to include the stream of the water within your photo, especially polarizers are highly recommended, because they are making a huge difference here. Being able to see the stones beyond the surface is definitely a nice detail, but more importantly you are reducing the bright reflections in the water, which are grabbing quite a lot of attention you usually want to have on the castle instead.
Travel Information
The town is linked to the long-distance road network through the Limburg-Süd interchange on the A 3 (Cologne–Frankfurt), 7 km away. They have a huge parking area near the Camping Place.
Runkel has a railway station on the Lahn Valley Railway (Koblenz-Limburg-Runkel-Wetzlar-Gießen) at which only regional trains stop.
