Germany Universität Potsdam
The old building of the University of Potsdam is a beautiful motif not so well known to tourists traveling to Berlin and is located relatively close to the center of the city.
Photography Tips
You don't have enough space to photograph the whole building with one shot (even with a 14mm lens in Full Frame) because there is another building in front of it and the two are separated by an asphalt road that is not that interesting to photograph. The only solution was to pan horizontally and frame the camera vertically. For this panorama I used five HDR shots at 14mm and f16 because I wanted to capture the drama of the sky and the structure of the floor in front. If you want better results, a tripod is a must.
Travel Information
If you are looking for the fastest option to go to Potsdam from the center of Berlin by public transport, I definitely recommend the regional train RE1. It has fewer stops than the suburban train or S-Bahn and is very comfortable.
As I imagine your hotel will be close to the center, you can take the RE1 train from Alexanderplatz, Friedrichstraße or Berlin Hauptbahnhof stations, which is the central train station.
If you get on at Berlin Hauptbahnhof station, it is only 4 stops to Potsdam: Zoologischer Garten, Charlottenburg, Wannsee and Potsdam Hauptbahnhof. The trip takes 25 minutes and it flies by.
Please note that to go to Potsdam you need a transport ticket covering zones ABC (zone AB does not work for you). A single ticket costs 3,80 € and 2,70 € for children from 6 to 14 years old (children under 6 years old travel for free).
