The gallery of Herrenhausen Castle, built between 1694 and 1698, has hardly been changed since the time of Electress Sophie. The most fascinating feature of this historic building is the banqueting hall with its intricate grey-blue ribbon ornaments on the ceiling and with the
frescoes by the Venetian Tommaso Giusti, which depict a cycle from the Aeneas saga.
