The Old Town Hall was built around 1420 as the town's merchant and tax house and, with its magnificent half-timbered south gable, is considered the main work of Alemannic half-timbered architecture. Between 1586 and 1589, Heinrich Schickhardt erected a Renaissance-style gable front with a decorative clock tower in front of the north side. In 1592, an astronomical clock with the allegorical figures Justitia and Temperantia was added, which move with each strike of the hour
