The concrete vessel Wismar I is a 300-ton concrete ship of the “Sealight Wiking Motor” type.

It was one of a series of more than 50 motor freight ships built at various construction sites for the “Speer Transport Fleet” during the Second World War.
Presumably built in 1944, the concrete ship was towed into Redentine Bay in 1962 and anchored there as a breakwater in shallow water. In 1973, the Rostock Maritime Waterways Authority demanded that the production cooperative remove the wreck because it disturbed the landscape and was an obstacle to shipping. Due to the estimated high effort required to remove the wreck, this was not done. So it remains a curiosity.

Photography Tips

Use your drone to showcase the location of the vessel.

Travel Information

Getting there is kind of tricky. There is no direct parking. Park at the marker on the map Zeesenweg. The walk along "An der Buch" towards the sea. There is a sign indicating that the path to the bay is prohibited because people used to walk towards the ship during shallow waters. However no one stopped us walking to the pier of the sailing club. We even met two joggers. From there you can start your drone.
