Germany Tormin Bridge (Torminbrücke)
The Tormin Bridge (Torminbrücke) is a prominent feature spanning Lake Aa (Aasee) in Münster, Germany. This prestressed concrete beam bridge, completed in 1988, is 140 meters long and 30 meters wide. It serves as a crucial part of the city’s inner ring road, accommodating four lanes for vehicles as well as dedicated pedestrian and bicycle paths on both sides.
The current structure replaced an older bridge from the 1920s and 1930s, which was notable for its expressionist design and viewing balconies. While the old bridge was demolished, elements of its design, such as the ornate grilles from the viewing windows, were incorporated into the bastions at the ends of the new bridge, preserving a link to its historical predecessor.
The Tormin Bridge not only serves as an important traffic artery but also offers picturesque views of Lake Aa, making it a significant landmark in Münster’s urban landscape.
