Germany Doppelbogenbrücke
The double-arch bridge in Nordsternpark crosses the Rhine-Herne Canal in Gelsenkirchen, connecting the two districts of Horst and Heßler. The pedestrian bridge was designed in 1997 by architect Prof. Stefan Polonyi for the 1997 Federal Garden Show and built from April 1996 to November 1996. The bridge's roadway, with a total length of 110 m, spans the canal at a 45° angle. It is suspended from two parallel arches, each 36 m high, that span the canal at a 90° angle. This creates a different bridge appearance depending on the perspective.
