Germany Halde Schwerin
The Schwerin slag heap is located in Castrop-Rauxel. It takes its name from the former "Graf Schwerin" coal mine, which was active until 1967. On the slag heap, at a height of approximately 150 meters, the artist Jan Bormann erected a sundial. It consists of 24 columns and a centrally located hand. The sculpture is 10 meters tall and displays Central European Winter Time. However, the clock is not standardized for Castrop-Rauxel, but rather for the 15th parallel, which defines the Central European Time zone. Therefore, as the artist intended, the sundial is approximately 30 minutes fast.
