Germany Burg Lüdinghausen
In the 12th century, the Knights of Lüdinghausen built a tower house. In the 13th century, the castles of Lüdinghausen, Wolfsberg, and Vischering were conquered by the Prince-Bishop of Münster. From 1569 to 1573, Lüdinghausen Castle was rebuilt by the cathedral chapter as a Renaissance-style palace on the walls of the old castle. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was expanded into a fortress. In 1829, the castle became private property, and the keep was demolished. From 1869 to 1872, the castle housed a landscape school. In 1879, the city of Lüdinghausen acquired the castle and renovated the west wing. In 2000, the castle was extensively restored and modernized. Today, the castle houses a socio-cultural center. The building can be rented for conferences and events.
