Germany Burg Vondern
Burg Vondern was first documented in 1266 as the rural residence of the Lords of Vondere. The name is derived from Middle High German and means "narrow bridge." A castle was first mentioned in 1401. The outer bailey was built around 1520. From the 16th to the 18th century, the castle changed hands several times. In 1799, the Droste zu Vischering family inherited the complex. In 1937, the castle became the property of the Prussian state. After the Second World War, the city of Oberhausen took over the castle complex. The city and the Burg Vondern Friends' Association had the castle extensively renovated until 1995. Exhibitions and concerts are regularly held in the manor house. The upper floor is used for weddings. The outer bailey houses a museum.
