Germany Zeche Prosper-Haniel
The Prosper mine began sinking Shaft 1 in 1856 and started production in 1861. Several shafts were sunk by 1921, including Shaft 2 with its Malakow tower (1875). Polish miners were recruited to meet labor demands, boosting Bottrop's growth. In 1974, Prosper merged with Jacobi/Haniel to form the Prosper-Haniel consolidated mine. Southern shafts were decommissioned from 1975 onward. Prosper-Haniel, Germany's last coal mine, closed on December 21, 2018.
