Germany Zeche Consolidation, Schacht 9
The Consolidation mine, established in 1863, became one of the largest coal mines in the Ruhr area. Shaft 9, sunk as the main production shaft starting in 1915, only began operations in 1922 due to delays caused by World War I. The double-strut headframe over Shaft 9, a delicate steel lattice structure made of riveted profile iron, is one of the last remaining examples of its kind in North Rhine-Westphalia and is now a protected monument. It represents the end of an era in headframe design. After the mine's closure in 1993 and the shaft's filling in 1996, the headframe was preserved and serves as a historical landmark. It is now used for cultural purposes, including theater performances and art exhibitions.
